Back Pain

Back PainYour Better Back is a site dedicated to providing useful evidence-based information to those with back pain and neck pain. While there is not a universal solution for everyone with back and neck pain, there are some common remedies that help most suffers. Ergonomics, spinal stabilization exercises, behavior modification, broad-based fitness programs, spinal exercises, core stabilization, back and neck care instructions are all components of an integrated approach to coping with back and neck pain.

Back pain has many causes and diagnoses (disc injuries, sciatica, facet syndrome, disc herniation, spondylolisthesis, spondylosis, degenerative disc disease, spinal muscle spasms.) but for most suffers of lower back pain there are basic guidelines and principles that will reduce the pain. Of course there are some spinal conditions that will require the immediate attention of a physician, and this site is not designed to replace the care of your physician. If you have lost bowel or bladder control, have frank muscle weakness, have pain or numbness down your legs, or genital numbness you should seek the attention of a physician.

In addition to the physical causes of lower back pain, neck pain and disc pain there are also behavioral components to back and neck pain. It is not uncommon for people with situational anxiety (mental stress) to have back pain and neck pain as a symptom of their underlying mental state. This "mind-body connection" is commonly evident in lower back pain, neck pain and headache sufferers. Often prayer and mediation may be the best remedy for these patients.
